Textbooks written to comply with the USCCB Curriculum Framework for the Development of Catechetical Materials for Young People of High School Age fail to reach students where they are at in their Catholic faith. In the two years since Regis-St. Mary stopped relying on the textbooks as the primary basis of their theology curriculum, their ACRE test results improved dramatically and the students are much more engaged in all aspects of their faith life. This would be an opportunity for teachers to share how they have met the requirements of the framework by using source documents, the arts, prayer, literature, film, liturgy, sacred music, service, and the daily Gospel vice using the textbooks. Regis St. Mary would share a couple of their best practices and then open up the discussion for others to share what has worked well in their schools.
